Day 5 of Radiation

Day 5 done! I’m really started to get the hang of this! Best of all, this morning I got to sleep in! Since I had my sleepover, I was able to get a bit more rest before getting ready for treatment. Dad was flying solo today, so he drove over bright and early and got some work done in the city while he waited for me to get done.

I keep forgetting to share details about how this all works! It is such a cool process! First, before I even started treatment, they took a mold of my mouth. I didn’t even know they were doing this, but mom and dad told me they did it while I was sleeping for a CT Scan. They also use the initial CT Scan to perfectly match up my body positioning for each session. I get to lie on this cool beanbag looking thing that keeps my body position just right.

By this time, I’m already fast asleep so they get started on the treatment. They use what’s called TomoTherapy to zap the tumor, helping to slightly shrink it and prevent it from growing. Each time I go in, they use light anesthesia to make sure I stay as still as possible during my nap. I get to wear a cool bandage throughout the week, keeping my catheter in place, avoiding any unnecessary additional pokes the next day (which I’m totally on board with!).

Before I know it, I’m out of TomoTherapy and starting to wake up from my nap. Today I got to have a nice lunch while I waited for dad to pick me up. I’m always up for lunch, second lunch, even third lunch if I can convince mom and dad to feed me again when we get home 🙂

Dad and I had a fun car ride home, and I’m just about ready to take another nap and get ready for tomorrow. I’ve made it through 5 days of treatment, which means I’m already a quarter of the way done!

I can’t wait to get back to UW tomorrow to keep going with this fight and beat this tumor!

See you soon! Stay “paw-sitive”!
